I live on small lake outside of a small town named McLouth, in Kansas. A couple of weeks ago I was reading a local paper called Green Acres and low and behold I discovered that there is a young woman who owns a ranch right outside of McLouth who has turned it into a home for, shall we say, kids who need lots of help. Part of the deal is that these kids (mostly teens) have to learn how to care for and ride the horses on the ranch. They are urged to live there for 18 months. They learn basic life skills and how to be responsible for themselves and how to help those around them. It is a faith-based program so they learn much from that also. I was completely blown away. They said that the plan is to broaden the program and incoorporate music and art. I am considering doing something for them on a volunteer basis since I am retired.
I was so proud to hear that these people are doing something so needed, it just made me want to cry.
I heard you on Glenn's show and I heard your passion. You are exactly what our country needs more of----and with 5 children---hooray for you!!!
The paper is at www.GreenAcresSells.com. The Nov. 18th issue. The article is titled "Eagle Wing Ranch teaches about responsibiltiy, making good choices". Their website is www.eaglewingranch.com.
Thanks so much!
